Cumberland, MD – Ernest "Ernie" Ellery Shipley, 77, of Cumberland, MD, peacefully went home to be with his mom, dad, and Our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 10, 1948, in Bedford, PA, Ernie was the son of the late Melvin Ernest Shipley, and Della Mae (Wigfield) Shipley. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law: Melvin Childers.

Ernie retired from Quarry Ridge as a truck driver, he formerly drove for Valley Trucking, prior to that he worked for Henkels and McCoy, and worked in the woods for several local logging businesses. Ernie enjoyed watching NASCAR. He loved his family, animals, and joyrides through the mountains. Ernie was also a die-hard Chevrolet man and enjoyed working on them and his tractors.

Ernie is survived by his daughters: Tonya Ricewick and husband: Brian; Janelle Shipley, and Delaney Shipley; his long-time companion: Lisa Abbott; his grandchildren: Laci Dolly, Kimberly Fairall, Kayla Welsh, and Austin Dolly, his many great-grandchildren; his sisters: Ruth Border, and Fran Childers; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his close friend: John E. Whorton.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Seth Wharton officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview Christian Cemetery for family and friends.
