Ernestine Inez Thomas Latimer (100) of
Huntington Beach, CA went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Ernestine was born in Independence, Missouri on October 21, 1923, to Alfonso Thomas and Vivian Allen Thomas. She graduated from William Christman High School, Class of 1941. She then went to work at Sears Roebuck Company and worked in the accounting department. She met the love of her life James H. Latimer later that same year. They were married in the First Christian Church in Independence, on October 30, 1942, and remained married for 60 years.
James enlisted in the Army Air Corps and began his training to be a pilot. Ernestine quickly became a military wife and all that it required of her. Their first-born child Doug was welcomed on August 16, 1943. They followed Dad on as many training locations as possible and soon he had to leave to go to war. After his return and decision to make the Air Force his career they were stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. On December 31, 1948, daughter Linda was born in Vallejo CA.
Ernestine loved to travel, be involved in the activities that her children were in, cook for family and friends, and volunteer when possible. She and Dad loved when the grandchildren came along, and spending time with them became their delight. There was much love, fun times and memories made that would last a lifetime...
Ernestine is survived by her daughter Linda and spouse Luis, and daughter in law Colleen Latimer. She was preceded in death by her husband James (2002) her son Doug (2015) and her parents.
