ENGELHART, Ervin - of Birch Run, age 90, died peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Burial of cremains at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI with full military honors will be held at 10:30AM Tuesday, June 3, 2025. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family wishes.
Ervin was born February 6, 1935, in Vassar, to the late Herman and Elsie (Veitengruber) Engelhart. He graduated from Vassar High School in 1953 and honorably served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958. While deployed in South Korea, he served as the head cook for the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment. Ervin was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear for 37 years, working as a metallurgical lab technician. His lab crew nicknamed him "Sparky" due to his expertise with spark testing metals. On September 3, 1960, he married his beloved wife, Janet Bull, and together they shared nearly 65 years of marriage at their home in Birch Run. He retired in 1991 to spend more time with his family and enjoying life. Ervin enjoyed traveling, his most memorable trips being to Europe and Hawaii, walking or bike riding, hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, and was an avid collector of many things including baseball caps, antiques, knives, and coins. He loved to cook, especially for family and friends, he loved anything to do with history and especially loved being a grandpa. Ervin was a wonderful man who can never be replaced, and he will be dearly missed.
Ervin is forever remembered by: Wife, Janet Engelhart; Children: Connie (Thomas) Lafferty and Larry (Connie) Engelhart; Beloved Grandchildren: Jeff (Nicole) McComb, Kelsey (Craig) Friend, Kyle Lafferty, Emily (Marcel Pully) Engelhart, and Alyssa Engelhart; Great Grandchildren: Lucas McComb, Chase McComb, and Arthur Friend; Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Ervin was preceded in death by: Parents, Herman and Elsie; Siblings: Dorothy (Roland) Gey, Mildred (Ralph) Hecht, Herman (Emma) Engelhart, Leroy (Shirley) Engelhart, Delbert (Joann) Engelhart, Gloria (Clair) Comer, and Frederick (Carol) Engelhart.
