Ervin "Toby" Messmer, 86, of Melbourne, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.
Toby was a Navy "Seabee" Veteran. He worked for the US Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster of Foster, KY. He also was a fireman for the Melbourne Volunteer
Fire Department; founding member of Campbell County Fire District # 6; a self-employed cabinet maker; worked for Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department; Hickory Sticks Golf Course and the City of Melbourne Public Works Department.
He was the son of the late Peter and Rose (Martz) Messmer. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Peggy Bay Messmer; brother, Charlie Messmer;
companion, Carol Steffen and long-time friend, Jerry Schabel. He is survived by his daughters, Laurabeth (David) Smith and Naomijoe (Donnie) Craven; sisters,
Loretta (late Joe) Guidugli, Mary (late Lou) Smith and Martha (John) Woeste; grandsons, Dexter (Anna) Smith, Dillon (Rachel) Smith, Donald "Lee" Craven III,
Colin (Annie) Craven and Bryce Craven; great grandchildren, Isabel and Caden; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (late Charlie) Messmer; many nieces, nephews, great
nieces and great nephews.
No Visitation. Memorial Mass 10:00 am on Saturday, June 21 at St. Philip Church, 1402 Mary Ingles Hwy., Melbourne, KY. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Reception to follow at St. Philip Church Parish Hall.
