Winifred Marie Messmer (née Creamer), age 97, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at her home in Linden Ponds, Hingham, Massachusetts, surrounded by her family.
She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, and beloved grandmother. Her laughter and smile brought joy to all who knew her. Born in Syracuse, New York, to Francis and Marie Creamer, she was the fourth of six children. Win enjoyed a career as an executive secretary, working for Carrier Corporation and later at M&R Associates.
She married Herman Messmer, Jr., on November 28, 1960, in Phoenix, Arizona. Their life together led them to many destinations, where they raised their three children with abundant love and strong upstate New York values. After settling in Hingham in 1975, Win became an active member of the community and developed many friendships. She was known for her warm smile, cheerful laugh, and gracious nature, and enjoyed walking, gardening, and painting.
Win leaves behind her adoring husband, Herman, and three adult children—Marie Messmer Lee and Jeen Lee of Easton, Pennsylvania, Anne Dwyer and Daniel of Hingham, and Michael and Mindi Messmer of Rye, New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, John Creamer, Mary Fleischmann, George Creamer, Bernice Ronan, and Barbara Johnston. What made Win happiest was spending time with her six grandchildren—Matt, Justin, Tim, Kegan, Sophie, and Johnny—whom she adored. She cherished hearing all the details of their lives. She will be missed by many.
