Ervin E Weinkauf, age 95 of St. Peter and formerly of New Ulm, passed away on Friday, June 30,2023, at Ecumen Prairie Hill, St. Peter.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter, with visitation preceding at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the New Ulm City Cemetery. To leave a condolence for the family, visit his obituary at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.
Ervin E was born May 19, 1928, to Adolph and Lucy Weinkauf in Pipestone County and was raised on farms in Pipestone, Nicollet and Blue Earth Counties. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, taking basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He served in Korea before returning to Minnesota and being honorably discharged from WWII service. Erv then worked as a long-distance trucker for several years and in law enforcement for fifteen years with the Brown County Sheriff's Office, serving as a deputy for seven years and as Sheriff for eight years. After retirement from law enforcement, he moved to St. Clair, where he drove for Northland Beverage, and to Sierra Vista, AZ, where he drove bus for the school district. He returned to Minnesota, settling in St. Peter, and worked for Palmer Bus Service, transporting school children and athletic teams. He was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Erv is survived by sons : Ervin R (Sharon) of Forest Lake and Arnold P (Candice) of Boynton Beach, FL; four grandchildren: Mindy Conyers, Mandy Weinkauf, Mike Weinkauf, and Dan Weinkauf; five great-grandchildren and niece Connie (Jon) Boonstra and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Merle (Carol) of North Mankato.
