Erwin Xavier Barnes was born on August 22, 1981, in Yazoo City, MS, to Wilma Jean

Barnes and Alvin Henderson. He was affectionately known as “Crow” and was the second-born son to

his parents.

He was a lifelong resident of Yazoo City and received his education in the Yazoo City Municipal School

District. Being no stranger to hard work, he held several jobs throughout the community. He was

a familiar and friendly face at Pennzoil, where he worked for several years, but was recently a Yazoo

County employee.

Known for his happy and fun spirit, Erwin was one of the family’s favorites. He was a giver at heart,

always willing to be a helping hand to his family. He could be heard often telling them, “I got you,

you know I got you.” Erwin was especially happy to be a father to his mini me, pride and joy, his son,

Erwin Jr. (EJ). Their time spent together was his happiest moments, whether it was at home, EJ’s games,

or them being on the grill.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Magnolia and Lewis Bonds, and Janie and Bae

Henderson, son, Elijah (Haymer) Barnes; and aunt, Delphine Barnes, with whom he shared a special

bond.

Erwin was a devoted son, father, nephew, and friend. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his

parents, Wilma (Prentiss) Young and Alvin Henderson; sons, Erwin Xavier Barnes, Jr. (EJ) and

Jaheim Gower; brothers, Alvin Barnes and Antonio Barnes; sisters, LeQuita Hollins-Young, Diamond

Hollins, Cortisha Green, Carmanita Green, Shenika Henderson, Nakeyta Henderson, and Natalie

Henderson; grandmother, Alma Jean Gower; aunts, Elnora Barnes, Michelle (Troy) McCallister, Alex

Barnes, Miranda Purvis, Vanessa Henderson, and Gloria Todd; uncles, Nakkila Bonds, Brandon

Bonds, Michael Henderson, Timothy Henderson, Sr., Herbert Henderson, and Orlando Henderson;

great-aunts, Sadie Titsworth and Rosemund Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other

family, and friends.
