Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she graduated from Westend High School. In her early years, she worked in finance while raising her 3 girls. After fulfilling her dream of being a homemaker, she started her second career as a nail tech and partnered with her daughter Freedom Green to help her launch her dream of owning a salon. From there, Essie turned her focus to Senior Companion Care where she worked until retirement.
Essie, who always had a profound faith, belonged to Victory Church. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for wanting to feed anyone and everyone, even the neighborhood kids. She loved coffee & conversations in the mornings, sewing handcrafted quilts, and yearly trips to Florida with her best friend, Lora. She will be remembered for the love and sacrifice she gave her family, her unique and timely humor, punctuated by her thick southern accent, and her compassion for anyone going through trying times.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Freedom Green; mother-in-law, Lucille Green; great-grandson, Dwayne Curtis Johnson, Jr. and her niece Jamie Shinn.
Essie is survived by her husband, Walter Green Jr; daughters LaQuilla Free Green(Ortiz) and Shanika Lucille Green. Son-in-law; Roberto Ortiz. Grandchildren; Tony Green, Tashiyla Green, Essence Morrison, Tyler Ortiz, Eli Green, Mia Ortiz, and Vanessa Gonzalez-Green.
A memorial service is being held on Saturday, August 31st, at 11am at Life Church in Mustang, OK.

This is Walida and Tammy we were freedoms best friends and when freedom was in labor with our godson Tony me and Tammy and Essie were all at the hospital all night long she was fussing because me and tammy was fighting over who would hold freedoms hand LOL it was a long night but we all stayed up and waited for him to come in to this world. We spent alot of time around Essie she was such a good mother and when we lost Freedom she stepped up as a mother to the grandkids Tony, Tashila, Queen while still raising Quila and Shanika my prayers are with you all I love you guys I will be out of town Saturday so I wont be able to make it to her service but just remember that beautiful spirit your mama and grandmother had and remember how much she loved you all so much.
