Esther James Obituary
Mother always needed to know where and what her family was doing. She was the matriarch of our family who was strong and stern, loving her family dearly. She was a great country cook and loved singing in the choir at church. Esther will be greatly missed and remembered for her strong will to survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Ray James, Sr.; infant daughter, Brenda James; son, Olen Ray James, Jr.; parents, Harry and Mammie Tanner; brothers, Harry Tanner, Jr. "Bo" and Grover David Tanner; granddaughter, Cynthia Taylor; and great granddaughter, Megan Taylor.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra James, Linda (Marshall) Kernea, and Sue (Pat) O'Neal; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 3 sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Esther James' name to Shield's Baptist Church -Choir Ministry at 12684 N. Highway 27 Chickamauga, GA 30707.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Suzanne Storey and Esther's care givers for their love and care. We appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time.
Condolences may be shared with the James family and live web casting of her funeral service will be available at www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Tony Vona and Chaplain Sam Reese officiating.
Interment will follow in the TN-GA Memorial Park with her grandsons serving as pallbearers and great grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
