Leo Chandler, Jr.
May 17, 1934 – September 3, 2025
Leo Chandler, Jr., 91, of the Burning Bush Community, peacefully moved in with Jesus on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, Leo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose gentle spirit and steadfast faith touched all who knew him.
Born and raised in Catoosa County, Leo graduated from Ringgold High School in 1953, where he proudly played on the football team. His commitment to service and leadership was evident throughout his life, especially in his longtime membership at Burning Bush Baptist Church. There, he faithfully served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years, ministering to others with kindness and humility.
Leo was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM and the proud owner and operator of Tennessee Valley Hardware, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1999. Never one to stay idle, he continued working during retirement with Brooks Welding Supply and Holston Gas.
More than anything, Leo loved the Lord and deeply cherished his church and church family. He also adored his own family - his wife, children, and grandchildren were truly his pride and joy. Leo was present for every band performance, sporting event, and hobby his sons pursued, always their biggest fan. He especially loved Friday Night Lights and cheering from the sidelines as his son coached.
Known for his soft-spoken demeanor and his remarkable ability to fix anything, Leo was a humble craftsman at heart. One of his favorite pastimes was working on his 1950 Willys Jeepster, which he proudly restored with the help of his sons - a lasting testament to their bond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Leo Chandler, Sr. and Letha Chandler.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Barbara Chandler; two sons, Scott (T) Chandler and Monty (Charley) Chandler; he was a loving Poppy to three grandchildren, Sarah (Thomas) Brackin, Emilee (Joe) Edgeman and Millie Chandler; and three great grandchildren, Lane Thomas Brackin, Annalee Scott Brackin, and Lydee Gene Edgeman; and several nieces and nephews.
