Esther Salgado Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Henderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. - Springfield on Jan. 20, 2023.
It is with a great sadness that the family of Esther "Lucy" Salgado, born March 15th, 1943 in San Juan Puerto Rico, left us on January 11th, 2023 at 1:26pm surrounded by her loved ones.
She is survived by her biological sister Providencia Davila and brother Angelo Salgado, her half brother David Arroyo and half sisters Awilda Arroyo, Felicita Arroyo, Madeline Ortiz, Emma Rockensies, Priscilla Arroyo and Maria Romano. Proceeded by her eldest daughter Elizabeth K. Davis, survived by her eldest son Luis H. Davis, and her younger daughters Michelle Vega, Erica Negron, and Grace Lynn Salgado.
She had 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and was love by so many as she didn't know a stranger. She offered acceptance and unconditional love to just about everyone she met, especially her family and friends. She was known to be "the life of the party" because she had a vigor for life, adventure, and a sense of humor that made one laugh even if one wasn't in the mood to smile.
She was a cancer survivor, as she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in 2008 and beat it. Her faith along with God's plan gave her the opportunity to continue to spread God's love to all those she met along the way. The many people she spoke to about her story called it a once in a lifetime miracle, but she would have said she has had many miracles in her 79 years of life and that God's purpose and plan for her was not yet complete. She encouraged many, not only with her words but also with her presence, as her humor brought comfort and relief in times of need. It modeled to those around her that there was always something to smile about even if circumstances seemed grim.
She was an amazing example of God's acceptance, compassion, and love as she lived with grace, mercy, and forgiveness for others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but also by all those who knew her intimately, met her frequently, or saw her sparingly as she always left her mark everywhere she went HER MARK OF LOVE.
