Ethel Haberkorn Obituary

Visit the Becker Ritter Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Brookfield website to view the full obituary.
At the remarkable age of 100, Ethel passed away peacefully and was reunited in Heaven with her husband Peter and daughter Kathi (Bill Kojis), as well as numerous treasured friends and extended family.

In addition to Kathi, she was the devoted mother of Ken (Ruth), Mike, Steve (Karen), and Diane (Kelly Huolihan). She was adored by her 10 grandchildren-Stephanie (Ryan Bentrup), Becky (Zac Bergemann), and Tim (Julie) Kojis; Matt and Tom (Brittany) Haberkorn; Nick (Jenna) Haberkorn, Jackie (Ben Hall), and Kim (Alex Todey); and Andrew (Trish) Mahler and Juliana Mahler. Ethel also cherished her 11 great-grandchildren, with more blessings on the way.

Born on the East Side of Milwaukee to John and Ida Klein, Ethel was the middle child of six. She was preceded in death by her brothers Ed, Jim, and Chuck Klein, and her sisters Eleanor Smith and Dorothy Gottfried.

Family and friends were always at the center of Ethel's life. She had a gift for putting the needs of others before her own and devoted herself to caring for and supporting those around her. She gave generously of her time and talents to her family, neighbors, and parish, leading and serving on many volunteer committees.

Ethel will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful cooking and baking-each family member had a favorite recipe only she could make just right. She poured the same care into her hand-knit creations, especially her sweater sets, and baptismal gowns gifted to new babies in the family. A lover of all sports, she played and coached in her younger years and later became the proud supporter of her children's and grandchildren's teams, along with her beloved Wisconsin professional and college teams. She never missed sending a greeting card for all the special occasions family and friends celebrated. These holidays will be a little less bright without receiving a card with her unique handwriting. Ethel was truly one of a kind, and to say she will be deeply missed is a grand understatement.

A visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Christ King Catholic Church, 2646 N. Swan Blvd., Wauwatosa, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eulogies will be shared just before the funeral Mass at 5:00 p.m. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a meal in the O'Donnell Room at St. Camillus, 10200 W. Bluemound Rd., Wauwatosa. A private burial will take place Friday morning, October 10, at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital in Brookfield and to the wonderful doctor and nurses at Vitas Healthcare Hospice Unit in West Allis for their expert and compassionate care.

Memorial contributions in Ethel's name may be made to the Vitas Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Unit.
