Gary Warren Haberkorn

Longtime Grosse Pointer Gary Haberkorn (75), died July 31 from PSP disorder in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. He was the son of the late Reva and Warren Haberkorn, and a 1967 graduate of Grosse Pointe High School. Gary is survived by his sister Karen Haberkorn-Fagan (Chester), three sons, including twins Michael (Allison) and David (Liz), and Steven (Elaine), all GPHS graduates, and six grandchildren.
After graduating from the School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State, Gary worked for Win Schuler's, and later managed Top of the Sixes, a Stouffers restaurant located on the 41st floor of 666 Fifth Avenue in New York City. He returned to Detroit to establish and operate a bar and grill called Schillings on Mack in GP Farms, before transitioning to a 30-year career in financial services, most recently as an Investment Advisor and Broker at Raymond James before retiring in April 2020. During his financial services career, Gary was a four-time Five Star Wealth Manager, the largest and most widely published award program in the financial services industry.
Gary was a devoted grandfather who delighted in showering his six grandchildren with the biggest, loudest, and most cherished toys during holidays, alongside gifts of time and meaningful moments. As a father, his straightforward nature often translated into unsolicited advice, especially regarding home renovation projects, a testament to his unique way of showing love. Gary will be fondly remembered for his blunt honesty, thoughtful gestures, and love for his friends and family.
A visitation for family and friends will take place Sunday, August 4, from 12-4PM, with service at 3PM, at Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Park, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
