Ethel Mae McAllister Ward, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, at the age of 93 in
Katy, Texas. Born on January 13, 1932, in
Burkburnett, Texas, Ethel was the 7th child born to William Andrew McAllister and Annie Nora (Reddock) McAllister. She was a guiding light to her family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and selflessness.
Ethel's journey through life began in a small Texas town, where she would grow to embody the values of kindness, nurturing, and a strong work ethic. After completing her education at Aldine High School, where she was honored to be voted the "Valentine Sweetheart" of the class of 1950, Ethel embarked on a new chapter. On October 20, 1950, she married the love of her life, Louie Carl Ward, Jr., in Houston, Texas. Their union lasted 65 beautiful years, filled with laughter, unwavering support, and endless love.
Ethel was an extraordinary mother to her five children, dedicating her life to creating a warm and loving home. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren-Whitney, Derek (Brittney), Morgan, Blake (Samantha), Lance, Ryan, Paige, Garrett, and Conner (Julee)-and her great-grandchildren Khloe, Hadleigh, Gwendolyn, Jaxon, Heidi, and Kennedy. Ethel's family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and warmth with every hug and smile.
Ethel's heart grew even heavier with the loss of her husband Louie, her son David, daughters Donna and Sharon, granddaughter Stephanie, and son-in-law Richard. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those they left behind. Ethel is survived by her devoted daughters Gail Traylor and Renee Wilson (Rusty). She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Betty Carroll.
A woman of many talents, Ethel found joy in a multitude of hobbies. She loved sewing, embroidery, gardening, and cooking, often delighting her family with delicious meals and handmade gifts. Ethel was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed bowling, always bringing a competitive spirit and joy to her games. Her favorite color was purple, a testament to her vibrant personality and her love for life.
Ethel's character was defined by her loving, nurturing, and giving nature. She was a beacon of strength for her family and friends, always putting their needs before her own. Her selflessness and kindness earned her the title of "Greatest Mother and Grandmother of all time," a sentiment echoed by all who knew her.
On Monday, December 15, 2025, a visitation will be held at 12:30 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, with the Rev. Jay Jackson, officiating. A Graveside service will follow at Katy Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be having a reception at the house after the graveside service. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ethel's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, honoring Ethel's spirit of giving and her love for family.
