Eugena L. Burdorf, 88, of Cheney, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024. She was born on May 1st, 1936, in Goddard, Kansas to Dick and Almyra Ayres. She was one of 16 children and lived on a farm during her childhood. She attended Goddard High School and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in March of 1957. Eugena married John Burdorf in April of 1958. Eugena and John enjoyed many years of marriage and raised five children together, Jack, John Jr., Jerry, Jeff, and James. The family lived on a farm north of Cheney for 25 years. Eugena then spent the next 19 years in Wichita, Kansas where Eugena worked in home health care. She then moved back to Cheney in 2002 and provided home care for her brother and sister until their deaths. Eugena then was the supervisor of the Red Cross Meals on Wheels program at the Senior Center while also being a dedicated member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She is preceded in death by parents, Dick and Almyra Ayres; ex-husband, John Burdorf; son, Jacky Lee Hysom.
She is survived by; sons, John Burdorf, Jerry Burdorf, Jeff Burdorf, James Burdorf (Sonya Sandvik); grandchildren, Crystal Wong, Aaron Burdorf, Ashleigh Burdorf, Roger Sandvik; great-grandchildren, James Jr. Guinn, and Adrian Guinn.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Monday, August 19th beginning at 10:30am.
