Eugene Buford Sr. transitioned from this life into the arms of God, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family.
Born February 22, 1926, in Lancaster, KY, Eugene was the youngest son born to Howard and Pearl Buford. He graduated from Mason High School in 1944, and proudly served in the United States Navy as a Boilerman during World War II.
On September 22, 1946, Eugene married, the love of his life, Maggie Evelyn Garth. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage, and to their union was born 5 children. In 1963, Eugene and Evelyn moved their family from Kentucky to Ohio.
Eugene enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fixing cars, playing pool, and was an avid bowler.
He retired from GM after 25 years' service. He was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and loved singing with The Kings Men. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 656 and NAACP.
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Great-Great-Grandfather, Brother and Friend. Eugene leaves to carry on his legacy, daughters Doris (John) Cannon, Shirley Buford Chambers, Edwina (Ronald) Bowen; Sons: Eugene Jr. and Ricky Buford. Grandchildren; Celeste (Willis) Williams, Catrena Cannon, Howard "Tres" (Tracy) Chambers II, Jeffery Chambers, Keisha Davis, Karla Bowen; Great-grandchildren: Jamal Williams, Jordan Williams, Taylor Williams, Ajia Witherspoon, Josiah Bowen-Pride, Janiah Bowen-Pride, Ela Davis and Kori Davis; Great-great grandchildren: Reya Williams and Vierre DeLuna; Sister, Elsie Henderson, a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Evelyn; Parents, Howard and Pearl; Brothers James and Rev. Charles Buford; Sisters Geneva, Louise and Mayme.
He has joined the heavenly choir and is resting in the arms of God. Eugene held to the promise that God..."WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU".
Eugene will be laid to rest on Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church located in Oberlin, Ohio. The visitation will be from 10-11am with the service beginning at 11:00am.
