Eugene Gainey, age 85 of Adrian passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Toledo Hospital. He was born April 5, 1938 in Laurel Hill, NC the son of the late Charles Thomas and Dollie Mae (Watson) Gainey.
Gene retired from the Brunswick Corporation after many years of working in bowling alleys. He attended the Tecumseh Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and was in a few leagues over the years. Gene loved to sing and was a member of various bands over the years and had recorded a record. His love of singing continued with singing karaoke and owning his own karaoke business.
Gene is survived by his children, Jeanette (Kenneth Mcavoy) Waters of Hudson, FL, Jeffrey Gainey of Zephyr Hills, FL and Jill (Darrell) Murphy of St. Augustine, FL; two sisters, Christine Moremen of Raleigh, NC and Joann (Richard) Godwin of Adrian; 10 grandchildren, Paula Sue Waters, Elizabeth Ann Waters, Amanda Jo (Peter) Wells, Jeffrey Gainey, Anthony (Katie) Gainey, Alec (Diamond) Gainey, Douglas (Brittany) Hochstetler, David (Kat) Hochstetler, Andrew (Katie) Hochstetler and Anna Reyes; and 21 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings and son-in-law, Robert A. Waters, Jr.
Visitation will be from 11am - 1pm on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Tecumseh Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Gene Hurley officiating. Inurnment will be in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh Freewill Baptist Church.
