Eugene "Gene" Herman Kotara

Eugene "Gene" Herman Kotara, 96, peacefully passed into the hands of the Lord August 7th 2025.

He was born May 24th, 1929 in Kosciusko, Texas.

Gene was known for his big smile, his friendly and loving nature and his numerous stories about his live experiences. He was a wonderful dad and husband. He was the ultimate "truck driver" sharing many stories of being "on the road". Gene and Lillian, his wife of 72 years, loved to fish at the coast, and hunt with friends, and especially enjoyed barbecueing with his many friends in his church and community picnics and celebrations. Gene was a faithful man. After his retirement, he enjoyed working on many projects with his community of friends at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary's Catholic Church. Gene's pride and joy was his family and the home he built that included his pecan orchard. And let us not forget his homemade wine crafted and enjoyed by family and friends.

Gene is preceded in by parents, Elizabeth (Cellmer) and Frank Kotara, siblings,

Marcellus, Magdalen Wolfe, Mary Laskowski and Agnes Pruski, as well his wife Lillian (Pawlik) Kotara, son Gary and daughter Deborah.

His life is celebrated by his daughters Shirley Kotara, Patricia Schiebel (William), sons Robert (Darlene), Roger (Lynda), Allen (Veronica) and William Kotara. He has 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Family and friends are invited to his rosary and funeral mass at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary's Catholic Church in St. Hedwig. Luncheon reception will follow after the internment at St. Jerome's Cemetery.

Funeral is Thursday, August 14th with viewing beginning at 9:30am, Rosary at 10am followed by Mass at 10:30.
