Eugene “Oog” Ray Hoard, our husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa left our family peacefully to go to his permanent home in the early morning hours on Father’s Day, 6/15/2025.
He was 84 years old, born on March 2, 1941; the 2nd child and son to Ray and Oleta Botimer Hoard, in Millington, MI and brother to Jeanette Keith. He spent his early years working with his dad in the excavation business and absolutely loved his Indian motorcycle. He married Sandra “Sandy” Lee Youmans on November 4, 1960. They established their first home east of Millington in Tuscola County. Eventually, they moved into town and raised four children: Laurae (Harold “Butch”) Edler, Terri (Glen) Reinert, Marc (Julia “Bug”) Hoard, and Raymon (Denise) Hoard.
Eugene was always a hard worker and spent most of his career as a truck driver for Superfoods. He was always willing to work overtime to provide for the needs of his family. Yet, despite this, he still found time to serve his community as a fireman and a village councilman for the Village of Millington for several years. In his later years, Eugene and Sandy spent their winters in Zephryhills, Florida, where he served as a board member for the Rainbow Village Community.
Throughout his life, Eugene loved spending time hunting, fishing in Canada, woodworking, playing cards, spending time at the cabin near Lewiston, Michigan, and shuffle boarding. However, if he could only do one thing, he would choose to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids: Kris Edler, Nick (Jessica) Edler, Nathan (Becky) Hoard, Joel (Jessi) Hoard, Seth Hoard, Garrett (Katelyn) Reinert, Tyler (Ashley) Reinert, Evan Hoard, Ethan Hoard, Emma Hoard, and his 13 great-grandkids. Whichever grandkid was in front of him, whom were all called “George”, was told “you know you are my FAV-RIGHT”!
He was a long-time member of Millington Church of God, and most recently attended Frankenmuth Bible Church in person and on-line services. He loved the Lord and would regularly tell family and friends he was praying for them. As his family, we would particularly like to thank all of Eugene and Sandy’s family and friends who have spent countless hours visiting and making Eugene’s life rich and full of fun-loving, humorous, and caring experiences.
His celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at 1:00pm at the Frankenmuth Bible Church (210 S. Main, Frankenmuth, MI). There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10:00am-1:00pm and a meal following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Frankenmuth Bible Church.
Kindly share a memory with the Hoard family in the guestbook below.
