Eugene Donald “Gene”Jungbluth, 93, of Tyngsborough, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, with his wife of 61 years, Marguerite “Peggy” Jungbluth, by his side.

He was the beloved father to five children: Jeannemarie (Thomas) Padovano, Donna (Edward) Corey, Regina Jungbluth, Stephen Jungbluth and Gregory Jungbluth. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Lauren Padovano, Michael (Riley) Padovano, James Padovano, Ian Corey, Allison Corey, Emma Corey and Luke Corey.

Born and raised in Lynbrook, NY, Don, as he was called in his early years, was the only son of August and Deborah (Murphy) Jungbluth. Gene was predeceased by his two sisters, Joan Jungbluth of Massapequa, NY and Deborah Carlson of Seminole, FL.

Gene graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from St. John’s University in New York and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Physics from Hofstra College, NY. He spent a long and fulfilling career at GTE Laboratories, where he developed groundbreaking non-destructive analytical techniques for evaluating and improving the performance of semiconductor and other electronic materials. He retired in 1986 after 27 years as a Principal Member of the Technical Staff at GTE. He authored many scientific publications and delivered numerous technical addresses at conferences around the world. Gene was an active member of the American Physical Society and the Electrochemical Society. After retiring from GTE, he continued to contribute to the scientific community by working as a writer and editor for Laser Focus World technical magazine.

Gene proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of St. Catherine's Church in Westford, where he served as an Extraordinary Minister, taught Confirmation classes, distributed Holy Communion to the homebound and read scripture as a lector.

Gene took pride in supporting his children in any and all of their endeavors. He coached baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. He was an enthusiastic taste tester of his family's baked goods. He was especially proud of each of his grandchildren and their numerous achievements in sports, in musical endeavors and in educational awards and accomplishments. Of special interest to Poppy, was his grandson Ian’s career as a Navy helicopter pilot and he took great joy in hearing his stories. He enjoyed music, playing the organ, reading biographies and staying up to date with scientific journals. He had a special place in his heart for his dog Bonnie and grand-dog Bosco.

In any event, Gene will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his quiet selflessness and his dedication to his family, his faith and his country.

Relatives and friends are invited to Gene’s Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 9 AM at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH - ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA CHURCH, 107 North Main Street, Westford, MA. Burial will be private. All are invited to join with the family after the mass for a luncheon in the St. Catherine's Social Hall.
