Eugene "Gene" Peter Leary, age 86, died peacefully on January 10, 2026. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC, with date and details to follow.

Gene was the youngest of five children, born to the late George D. Leary and Helen Moore Leary. He graduated from Tenafly HS in New Jersey. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably from March 1958 until June 1962 in Osan, Korea, and Minot, ND. He was extended during the Berlin Crisis. After the military, he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bettelou Buniva Leary, his son Kevin Michael Leary and wife Aparna Kamath Leary. Gene had a successful career in the office products industry and retired at 80 years old. He always enjoyed his work.

Gene was a very caring and kind man who always had a positive outlook on life. He loved being with people, including his Wednesday breakfast "ROMEO" group. In return, he was loved and will be missed by many. He was a man of many talents: A painter, an actor, a coach, and a mentor. Gene was a wonderful husband and father. He also served on many ministries in his church.

Gene loved sports and was known for making the best cocktails. He truly loved life.

A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday January 23rd, at Saint Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27408.

In lieu of flowers, Gene's family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
