Eugene Luketic Obituary
Eugene R. "Gene" Luketic, age 79, of White Oak, died December 12, 2023, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born February 7, 1944, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Stephen and Catherine (Kesser) Luketic and the beloved husband of Margaret "Peg" (Viscuso) Luketic.
Eugene was a graduate of McKeesport High School, Class of 1961. Following his passion for public service, he embarked on a career with the Federal Government in Washington D.C., before returning to his hometown. Seeking further knowledge, Eugene pursued his education at the Community College of Allegheny County, where he earned his associate's degree. He then continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh, further enriching his understanding of the world.
In 1963, fate brought him to the parking lot of Eat'n Park, on Eden Park Blvd. in McKeesport where Gene crossed paths with the love of his life, Peg. Their chance encounter blossomed into a beautiful relationship filled with unwavering support, kind companionship, and shared moments of joy and lots of laughter. Together, they built a life centered around their family and the values they held dear.
With a strong desire to contribute to the well-being of others, Gene served as a Medical Technologist at the VA Hospital in Oakland. His commitment to his role was unwavering, and he approached every day with a focus on helping those in need. Eugene's compassion and dedication touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Eugene's devotion to his loved ones was unparalleled. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, particularly during Christmas. His warm presence and infectious sense of humor were a constant source of delight for all those fortunate enough to be in his company. His genuine laughter and quick wit could brighten even the darkest of days. Gene played the mandolin with the Tamburitzans, and the Tamburitzan tradition continued with his son and grandsons. Gene also took an interest in the ancient sport of Atlatl.
In addition to his wife Peg, Gene is survived by his children, Andrea "Andi" (Ronald "Pete") Cartwright and Vincent (Amber) Luketic; grandchildren, Geno and Gavin Luketic; siblings, Edward (Naleen) Luketic and Kathleen (Kenneth) Hartos; nieces and nephews, Kari Hornak, Josh (Jean) Hartos, and Beth (Seth) Kowalski, Stephen and Deena Luketic, Emmett (Katie) and Travis (Alyssa) Luketic, Brenden (Stephanie) Elder, Angelina Viscuso, and Tom Kelly; an aunt, Katherine Kovacevic and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia "Ginger" Elder, and a brother, Richard Luketic.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful staff of UPMC McKeesport 5-Mansfield, who were so kind and caring to our dear husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. Your care and compassion helped make this difficult transition a little bit easier for us all, and for that we thank you. We would especially like to thank Becca, Matt, Max, and Lorraine for their kindness (and for recognizing the lovely and loving man behind the mask), and most of all, Kelly, who made things a little easier for us all. You are everything a nurse should be and we are forever grateful to you.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the memorial service at 8 p.m. Because he valued their mission, instead of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the McKeesport Agape Center 1201 Prescott Street, White Oak 15131. Online donations can be made here.
We will also be collecting memories of Gene to be shared with family and friends at the service. If you would like to share a story or just a word or two with us about this sweet guy, please email them to Andi at: [email protected] (if you have something fun or funny to share, don't hold back! He loved to make us laugh). If you will be visiting with the family at the funeral home, we will also have cards available for you to fill out with your thoughts. We appreciate your participation in helping us to keep our father's memory alive.
Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com. Chris Odasso, Supervisor
