Gene Nelson of McCaysville, Georgia passed away at home surrounded by Family on December 15, 2023. Gene was born on 1/27/32 in Ducktown, TN to the late Augustus (Gus) Nelson and Dovie Carver Nelson. Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Nelson, brothers, Bazelle and Charles Ray Nelson.
Gene proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his time in the service he returned to TN where he attended and graduated from TN Tech. Gene was driven by Faith and a strong family bond. He was a member of Ducktown United Methodist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He loved the great outdoors, from outside sports to oceans and lakes to gardening and his lawn. He was an avid TN Vols fan and looked forward to game day so he could fly his Vols flag next to his Volunteers Drive sign.
Gene was a great example of a life well lived. Words can't describe how much we will miss him.
Gene is survived by his wife, Denise Nelson, daughter, Vicky (Garry) Elrod, sons, Rick Nelson, Bart (Mo) Nelson and Bert (Holly) Nelson. Grandchildren, Garrett Elrod, Brandon Elrod, Lyndsey Bodiford, Lauryn Gattis, Emma, Garrett, Ana Kaylor, Knox Nelson, Nora Nelson and Raylee Nelson. Great grandchildren, Britt, Blake, Owen and Ethan Bodiford, Sister-in-Laws, Diane Burden, Cindy Godfrey and Carla Sparks along with nieces, nephews and caregiver Serena Schrage.
Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be on January 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
