Eugene Schrandt Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Schrandt, 71, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away September 6, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.
A memorial service for Gene Schrandt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Erik Hoefer officiating. Inurnment will be at Howard Cemetery in Elma, Iowa.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Saturday.
Eugene "Gene" Leo Schrandt was born on November 29, 1953, to Denis and Ida (Fasnacht) Schrandt in Charles City, Iowa. He was the oldest of their two living sons, Arnold and himself, with a brother passing away at infancy. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1974.
Gene got a job working at the infamous, local Oliver-White tractor factory and stayed there until they closed in 1993. He met Mary Gesell through a newspaper ad that Mary had submitted in order to find her soul mate. Out of seven guys, Gene answered first and after their first date, the rest is history, as they say! They were united in Marriage on April 17, 1983, at the St. Peters church in Elma, Iowa. They moved to the farm Gene had purchased outside of Charles City and in 1985, they had a son, William, who learned to work beside Gene as they tackled working cattle and farming their 80 acres.
Gene developed several, serious health issues that caused him to stop farming, but he never lost his good attitude and sense of humor about him! Gene always enjoyed being outside or in the garage tinkering whenever he could. He also loved to cook and grow his own food. He enjoyed volunteering with their church family at Messiah Lutheran Church as well as the love, support, and fellowship given to him over the years there.
Those left to share his memory are his wife, Mary Schrandt; Son, William (Sarah) Schrandt; Granddaughters: Ava Williams and Ivy Mae Callow; Brother, Arnold Schrandt; as well as several Nephews, Nieces, and Cousins
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Denis and Ida Schrandt; Infant Brother, Denis Joseph Schrandt; Parents-in-Law, Raymond and Cleo Gesell; and Granddaughter, Karley Josephine Schrandt.
