Eugene F. "Dean" Smith, 78, a lifelong resident of Metal Township, entered into rest in his Willow Hill home on August 21, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Eleanore Jean (Neil) Smith. Born September 24, 1946, in Metal Township, he was the son of the late Frank D. and Fay E. (Neil) Smith.

Dean was a man of many talents and was known as a roof painter. In his earlier years, he was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot and later at the former General Casting in Shippensburg, until retiring in 2005.

Dean was a member of Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Corps and life member of the NRA.

He appreciated his special friends at Shady Pine Community Church. He loved to hunt and fish, work on lawn mowers and his collection of matchbox and model cars brought him much pleasure.

Surviving with his wife, Eleanore, are 2 sons, Terry of McConnellsburg and Buddy of Willow Hill, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Jerelle Smith (Connie) of Fannettsburg and Ronald Smith (Sue) of Upper Strasburg and a sister, Anna Snyder (Carl) of Willow Hill. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Martha Varner in 2021.
