Eugene Allen Zapletal, known to his friends as “Zap”, passed away on Saturday, February 28th, 2026. He was 70 years old. He was born in Fremont, MI but lived in Houma, LA for the last 40 years.
Family and friends are invited to attend services in his honor on March 11th, 2026. Visitation will be at 1:00pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma, LA.
Gene, as his family affectionately referred to him, is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Pamela Zapletal, sons Adam (Johnna) and Aaron (Shelly), grandchildren Brynn, Anthony, Asher, Audrey, and Abigail. Brother Joseph (Dyan) Zapletal, sisters Barb Melven, Sue (Bill) Hammer, Mary Symon, and Alice Zapletal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Zapletal and sister Patricia Lademan.
Throughout his long career in the oil field, Gene was able to see many beautiful places around the world. He was very dedicated to his craft and mastered many aspects of it. At home, he was always building, fixing, and inventing. Most of all, though, he loved spending time with his family: playing pool in the garage, sharing his knowledge of how things work, and building things.
He will be remembered for his generosity, words of wisdom, kindness, love for his family, and sense of humor.
Gene will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
