Thank you all for being here to honor our mother/grandmother/ great grandmother who was the heart of our family Today we are honoring, celebrating and remembering the life of Miss Eula, Esmie, mama, grandma, sister, auntie, and friend
Eula Agatha Phillips born on May 13 th 1933 to John and Jane-Ann Phillips- Born in king Weston Parish of St Andrew Jamaica. She was one of 7 children. She attended the king Weston primary school where she was a great student. She did her 3rd year local Jamaican exam and scored high grades in all subjects. She later met Joseph Sadler. That union was blessed with 8 beautiful children and, were so proud to say we are all here. There were many many proud moments when she attended graduations, weddings, christenings, and birthday celebrations. You could see the shuttle smile on her face. We loved that smile but we also loved her signature laughter.
Growing up she was a great teacher. She had a passion for teaching and learning. The Bible was her favorite book. God was always a topic for discussion in our family with the hope that we will all repent and will be together forever in Heaven.
Mom had a strong Christian faith which was grounded in the Seventh Day Adventist Religion. Every aspect of her life reflected her unwavering faith. From the quiet moments of prayer at dawn to the fervent hymn she sang all day ever. She also loved being in the Choir. Devotions with the family was very important to her and that's where we all learn to read. Her devotion to God was evident in every word and deed.
She was very principled and steadfast in her ways. When she knows she is right, especially when it comes to her religion, she is stuck and convincing a mountain to move would be easier.
Her faith and belief in God has overcome many trials and tribulations. When she prays you can feel the deep and intimate communication and connection with her God. Just recently my brother Devon said to me, "I know for sure that the prayers of mom has protected us."
Mom's love extended beyond our immediate family and she has opened her doors to many of our family members and even strangers Moms daily admonition to us were always grounded in scriptures.
People will let you down but God will never. Through numerous trials through many, many disappointments. Through it all, mom taught us to depend on the one who says he will never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6), who faithfully keeps his promise (Hebrews10:23), and speaks only truth (Hebrews 6:18), we will have trouble in the world but Jesus had overcome them and we can find peace with him (John 16:33).
She founded the Florence Hill SDA kindergarten school almost 40 years ago. Kerian, my daughter and her first granddaughter, was one of her first students. That school still stands today and has grown. She migrated to the US in 1987, all in the hope to provide better opportunities and life for her children and grandchildren. As a CNA she worked for over 15 years caring for patients. Many of her co-workers would talk about her dedication to patients and emphasized that even the confused patients would ask about her where is when she was off.
Like a master gardener mom nurtured us with patience and care. You have tended to our dreams watering them with encouragement. You have pruned our fears with gentle encouragement and to always trust in the Lord. Under your loving care we grew, we blossomed, and look at us we have flourished and multiplied As we bid farewell. We are not saying goodbye. We are saying thank you thank you. Mom thank you for your unwavering love and support. Your endless patience and invaluable lessons. Thank you for your wisdom and guidance. We will remember not just the loss but the incredible legacy you have left behind. Your memory will guide us and your love will remain in our hearts forever.
Thank you mom for everything you have done for us. You will always be missed but never forgotten. She is survived by her 8 children, 20 grand children, 15 great grand children, 1 brother, 1 niece, 4 nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
