Celebrating the Life of Eunice “June” Ponfick Rehmann

June 3, 1936 - November 10, 2024

Eunice “June” Ponfick Rehmann was born to Erich and Louise Ponfick in Carmine, Texas on June 3, 1936. June and her brothers were raised to follow Christ at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Growing up between brothers, June played with all the boys: hardball, football, and basketball. She was a regular tomboy. As a child, June’s humble beginnings fashioned in her a strong work ethic.

Proficient in all sports, June shone on the basketball court. Her love of the game lasted all of her life and influenced the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An avid San Antonio Spurs fan, June knew the names, statistics, and life stories of all her players. She faithfully cheered on her boys every season. But among her greatest joys was watching her children and grandchildren participate in their own sports and passions.

Another profound source of love was unearthed in June’s relationship with Herb. On June 5, 1955, June entered into the holy covenant of marriage with Herbert Rehmann. In the bright, white chapel of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, Texas, June and Herb cemented their union in Christ and began laying a strong foundation of faith, sacrifice, and commitment that created a lasting legacy of love for their family.

At seventeen, June’s first job was working at the Round Top State Bank. She continued working in the banking industry until her retirement in 2003. After loving the Lord, June’s greatest treasure was her family. Her home was a welcoming place: a place of gathering and feasting, of food and celebration, a place of intention and relationship.

June was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her son Randy, her parents Erich and Louise, and her brothers Allison and Ira. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Russell and Tamera Rehmann; daughter and son-in-law Wanda and John Reidy; daughter-in-law Debbie Rehmann; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

June’s life was suffused by faith, and she profoundly loved God, her family, and friends. She held fast to an unshakable trust in the goodness of God. The influence of her beautiful life remains.
