Eva Hoover Obituary

Eva Pearl Hoover, daughter of the late A.G. and Paulene Simmons, born May 9, 1939, in Thomasville, Alabama, left us July 30, 2024. Growing up in Baton Rouge, Eva attended Istrouma High School and LSU. She loved having fun and meeting people of every age. She was first employed by Dalton Theatre, later S.C. Bell as a switchboard operator, later joining the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board transportation department as a bus driver. She retired after 40 years of service to the Transportation Department, serving thousands of local area children, schools, and associate drivers, while also insisting on maintaining her own routes. She loved her kids with a passion for their youth; volunteering for every field trip to share and enjoy experiences across South Louisiana. Eva served as an election commissioner. She was dedicated to the community, friends, and neighbors for which she so loved. Survived by and deeply missed by her husband, Arthur M. Hoover, Jr of 64 years; her three children, Arthur M. Hoover III "Bo" and wife Jocelyn F. Hoover, Miki Paulette David and husband, Mark David, and William Travis Hoover; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Eva loved the outdoors. She treasured Highland Road, Gulf of Mexico, being surrounded by nature, history, art, music, zydeco, antiques, style, fashion, hats, pets, and the southern architecture of her home state. Both a member and judge for the Baton Rouge and American Camellia Societies, she loved to admire the Camelia's gathered and grown from all over the world by her husband, Arthur, for her to admire and share. She traveled all over the Gulf Coast to exhibit these beautiful creations. Eva was an expert in every nuance of perfection, color, and form, while collecting, growing, and sharing with her husband, family, and dear friends. Eva was a long-time member of St. Jude Church since the earliest days of its conception and construction within the parish and lower Highland Road. The family of Eva Hoover would like to invite all who knew and loved her to join us as we commemorate her life. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM until services at 11:30 AM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
