Eva Sarma Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home - Louisville on Jan. 27, 2026.
Eva Gohain Sarma was born in Nagaon, Assam, where she grew up in a close-knit and loving family. She earned two bachelor's degrees in Assam and moved to the United States in 1978, where she built a life rooted in dedication, kindness and service to others.

Before moving to the United States, Eva began her teaching career at a missionary school in Nagaland and later taught at Nagaon Baptist Mission School. After settling in the U.S., she continued her commitment to community service by actively participating in charitable work through the Assam Foundation of North America, Inc., an ethnic charitable organization serving the Assamese community in North America. Eva was a devout Christian throughout her life, and her faith was a guiding force in all that she did.

Eva devoted many years to teaching at Wilder Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, compassion, and dedication before retiring.

She had an ardent love for gardening, art, and crafts-a passion immediately felt by anyone who walked into her beautiful garden. Family was the center of Eva's life. She deeply cherished not only her immediate family but also her extended family and friends. Known for her generous heart and gracious hospitality, Eva welcomed everyone with open arms and went to great lengths to ensure her guests felt comfortable, cared for, and at home.

Eva Sarma is survived by her loving husband, Atul Sarma; her sons, Gaurab Sarma (wife, Sasmita Behera Sarma) and Anjan Sarma (ex-wife, Krista Milam); and her beloved grandchildren, Arya and Aidan, who were a constant source of joy in her life. Her kindness, love, and gentle presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorville Road, Louisville, KY 40205, from 10:00am -12:00pm with a service to follow at 12:00pm.
