Rhinebeck, New York – Evan Kaplan, 28, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City on November 5, 1996, Evan was the beloved son of Dr. Steven Kaplan and Jill (Kaufman) Kaplan.
A 2015 graduate of Rhinebeck High School, Evan was known for his boundless charisma, quick wit, and warm, kind heart. His expressive and magnetic personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. From friends and family to customers at Tops Friendly Markets, where he was a cashier, he found joy engaging with his community.
Evan's vibrant spirit was evident in his passions and hobbies. A lover of anime, wrestling, Pokémon, and gaming, he brought boundless enthusiasm to everything he did. A master Lego builder, Evan tackled massive projects, completing intricate sets like the Titanic and The Colosseum with creativity and patience. He was also delighted in collecting Funko Pop! figures, watching movies (particularly a special love for Deadpool), and spending time immersed in his favorite TV shows.
Evan's love for life extended to his taste in food. From Pop-Tarts and rice pudding to cheeseburgers and mac and cheese, he had a joyful appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
An admirer of Post Malone and a fan of all things pop culture, Evan had an uncanny ability to connect with others. Through Make-A-Wish, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of meeting Jackie Chan, which inspired him to achieve his black belt in karate-a testament to his determination and passion for life.
Evan was a cherished member of the Kids of Courage and Camp Simcha communities, where he was loved by counselors and fellow campers alike. His warmth, humor, and bravery touched countless lives, leaving an undeniable mark on all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Evan is survived by his twin siblings, Max and Rachel; his grandmother, Nancy Fliegel; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Robert Fliegel and Seymour Kaplan, whose memories he carried with him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY. Burial will follow at the Rhinebeck Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
