Evander "Chuck" Dashell Bembury, 59, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away suddenly on July 16, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on April 4, 1966, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Eloise Bembury. His legacy began with his father Joseph, born in Düsseldorf, Germany, whose strength and work ethic helped shape Chuck's life of resilience, compassion, and purpose.
Known lovingly as "Chuck," Evander was a man of faith, family, and quiet determination. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Jake Bembury. Left to honor his memory are his sister, Sheryl W. Bembury; his brother, Kelvin Bembury; his son, Tim Bamberger; his daughters, Anesha Bembury, Dalisa Bembury, and Tanee Bembury; five nieces, two nephews, and a wide circle of cousins, friends, and loved ones.
Chuck had a deep love for music and could often be found behind the drums at Pentecostal House of Prayer in South Mills, North Carolina, where he was a dedicated member for eight years. His presence and talent uplifted the congregation, and his passion for worship was matched by his service to the community.
He was also a man of many talents and interests. Chuck followed in his father's footsteps by working as a professional logger before transitioning into construction. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, working on cars, and had recently begun pursuing drone certification through Tidewater Community College-combining his love for innovation and technology. Known for biking 56 miles round trip from Chesapeake to South Mills regardless of the weather, he lived with remarkable determination and heart.
A visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive,
Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A funeral service will follow at Pentecostal House of Prayer, 410 Old Swamp Road, South Mills, NC 27976. Interment will take place at West Lawn Cemetery, 1909 W. Main Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Service times will be announced soon.
