Evelyn June “Cookie” Apitz, RN of Suffield went home to be with the lord on June 8th.
She was born on February 23rd, 1943, in Akron Ohio. She was raised in Mogadore Ohio and graduated from High School in 1961. She furthered her education at Akron General Nursing School with her nursing degree in 1964. Cookie and Gary were married on August 22nd, 1964. Together they had 3 children, Dan, Amy and Beth. She was a devoted nurse taking time off her career to raise her children when they were young and returned to nursing, retiring from Edwin Shaw Hospital. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She was known for her love of travel, her sense of humor and her intelligence. She and Gary traveled to many countries and continents making friends along the way. Cookie made every holiday special by decorating the house, finding the perfect gift and preparing festive treats. The family especially loved the “Green” meal for St. Patrick’s Day where she honored her Irish heritage.
One of her favorite pastimes was attending all events in which her grandchildren were participating. She was a devoted member of the Chapel in Green and served as a greeter for many years. She also served on the Women’s Auxiliary Board at Stan Hywett and loved when it was Ohio Mart time each year.
Preceded in death by older brother William Fogarty, parents Donald and Lucy Fogarty and many cherished friends.
Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gary Lee Apitz. Sister-in-law Kathy Fogarty. Son Daniel (Bette) Apitz, daughters Amy Enos and Beth (Donald) Coleman. Our family has been blessed to live close to each other allowing her to be involved in the day-to-day life of each family member. Grandchildren Tyler (Ali) Scott, Kelsey (Luke) Stopp, Tanner (Maddie) Scott, Alyssa (Cody) Timmer, Madison (Brock) Albaugh, Macklin Coleman, Morgan Enos and Riley Coleman. Five great grandchildren with another on the way.
Family and friends will be received Friday. June 14th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home at 3553 Northdale Street NW, Uniontown 44685. Funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Brett Faris officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Stan Hywett or The National Forrest Foundation.
