Evelyn Jeanette Baker Cagle was born on August 4, 1933, and went home to be with the Lord on February 26, 2025, at 12:03PM, at the age of 92 years and seven months old. She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Robert Cagle and her parents Mildred Bradford Baker and William Daniel Baker of Empire, Alabama. Jeanette and Robert were raised in Empire Alabama and were married at Empire Church of God in 1952. They left Empire immediately and took up residence in Cleveland, Tn in Ellis Hall, which was married housing at Lee College. Robert finished his degree at Lee College and became a minister in the Church of God, they had their daughter Carolyn who was born and learned to walk in Ellis Hall.
After leaving Lee College, Jeanette dedicated her life to being a minister's wife and together they pastored the following churches: Blue Springs Church of God, Cleveland, TN, Cottonport Road Church of God In Decatur, TN, and Birchwood Church of God in Birchwood, TN. They left Cleveland to pastor Short Mountain Church of God in Woodbury, TN. Throughout this time Jeanette and Robert had two other daughters, Myra Lynn and Patricia Gayle.
Jeanette and Robert and the family moved back to Cleveland, TN in 1970 where they were appointed to Kinser Church of God, the third Church of God established in Bradley County, TN. Jeanette was an integral part of her husband's ministry in Cleveland where they pastored Kinser, Ladd Springs and Pine Hill Church of God. Brother and Sister Cagle were well – loved in Cleveland. Jeanette loved the Church of God. She loved Camp meeting and going to the Church of God General Assembly. She was an avid gardener, an exceptional seamstress, and a loving mother. When her girls were older, she joined the workforce and retired in 1998 for Hardwick Clothes.
After retiring Brother and Sister Cagle were faithful members of North Cleveland Church of God. Jeanette was a superb cook and avid homemaker. Jeanette was a member of Common Threads Quilt Club where her quilts received numerous awards for authenticity, creative design and perfection. Her quilts were shown all over East Tennessee, the local museum in Cleveland and were greatly admired by many.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Olivia Zavodny of Honolulu, Hawaii, and one grandson Andrew Cagle of Atlanta, Georgia, one son-in-law Edward Zavodny of Memphis, TN. She was preceded by her beloved daughter Airmen Patricia Cagle, USAF of Cleveland, TN and by her beloved Grandson LCPL John Cagle, USMC of Atlanta, Georgia.
The oldest of ten children, she was loved and admired by a large family who were with her in her last days. Her surviving brother and sisters are Mrs. Dee Harris, of Virginia Beach, Va., Mr. Bobby Baker and Jean Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Dane and Lawanda Perez, Mrs. Rita Swann, Mrs. Glenda Jones, and Mr. Dudley and Linda Thompson, of Alabama, her sister – in – law, Mrs. Barbara Wilson, of Alabama and 123 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceding her in death were her brother, Mr. Earkine Baker, sisters – in law, Mrs. Joyce Baker, and Mrs. Glenda Baker, and her sisters Mary Ruth Russell, Mrs. Kathryn Olmstead, brothers – in – law, Mr. Charlie Harris and Mr. Eddie Russell, and one son – in – law Leon Wimpey. Jeanette will be greatly missed by a large community of friends and her large extended family.
She is survived by two daughters Carolyn Cagle, of Hiawassee, Georgia and Myra Cagle of Memphis, TN, who became her caregivers and were with her at her passing. We miss you Mother, and we will see you soon. This is not the end.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Central Time, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Empire Church of God in Empire Alabama with Rev. Brad Corley officiating. Burial will follow in Empire Church of God Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Church.
