Evelyn Lohr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 14, 2025.
Evelyn Marie (Engelhardt) Lohr was born in Santa Ana, CA to Doris and Donald Engelhardt and grew up in Sun Valley, CA. As a business program top-student at North Hollywood High, she was awarded a secretary job at Lockheed upon graduating in 1956. Later, realizing her hairdressers made more than she did, she became a cosmetologist in North Hollywood.

After graduation she met Curtis Lohr: they married in 1967. Soon daughter Jonni arrived. Seeking a cleaner life for her, they embarked on a grand adventure, buying an antiques store in Cayucos, CA. They made annual trips to the Midwest to find barns of unwanted turn-of-the-century treasures. During this exciting time, Patti was born.

After 7 years of cold, foggy beachfront, they sought sun. They discovered Sonora and opened Lohr's Lane Antiques, living out their dream life and doing all they could for their girls to live theirs, too. Her mother eventually relocated, also.

Following 35+ yr in antiques, she did medical transcription, worked at Sonora High, was Tuolumne County 4-H Coordinator, and was Executive Secretary at Fibreboard. Her many interests included bowling, antiques, puzzles, flowers, golf, and people.

In 2020, illness necessitated she live with her daughters in Humboldt. One year later and healthy, she moved to assisted living where she made many dear friends, enjoyed all the daily activities and meals, and saw her daughters daily & sister often. Body ailing but mind sharp, her final four years were rich and loving. Her girls are so grateful she was near.

Evelyn leaves behind her sister & brother-in-law, Virginia & Thomas Scholl, brothers & sisters-in-law, Lawrence & Mundana Engelhardt and John & Janet Engelhardt; daughters & sons-in-law, Jonni & Mike Mayberry and Patti Lohr & Ken Stevenson; grandchildren Alexa Hayley Jenkins, Wyatt Stevenson, and MacKenzie, Garrett, & Gavin Mayberry; great-grandson Wylden Mayberry; + 13 nieces & nephews.
