Evelyn “Sally” Matthews, 95, was born in Odessa, Texas in 1928 to J.A. (Jim) and Ida Mae Preuit. She was living in a nursing home in Brownwood, Texas at the time of her death.
Sally graduated from Levelland High School Class of 1946. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Levelland where she belonged to the Sonshine Choir.
She was a past member of the Levelland Chapter #797 of Eastern Star for over 50 years where she was Past Worthy Matron. Sally also served as Past Worthy Matron of Lexington, Texas Chapter #236. She served on the Grand Chapter Committee Grand Chapter of Texas Order of Eastern Star. Sally served the Order Levelland Assembly #118 Order of the Rainbow Girls on the Advisory Board for several years.
Sally is survived by her 3 sons, Ronald and wife Renee of Maryville, Tennessee, Charlie and wife Maryann of Rochelle, Texas and Jimmy Matthews of Kingsland, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Wayne Matthews; parents, Jim and Ida Preuit; sisters, LaraBelle Moore and Jean Leavelle; and brother, James Preuit.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the City of Levelland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
