Evelyn Mae McEwen was born in Wray Colorado, on June 19th, 1939, to Claude and Ruby McEwen. She graduated from Wray High School then moved to Fort Collins and attended Colorado State University for a year. On September 29th, 1957, Evelyn married Raymond Wesley Pilkington from Laird, Colorado, and followed him to San Diego while he was a Marine, then to Canby, Oregon. Ray and Evelyn grew their family first with the birth of their daughter, Mae Michel "Shelly" (1959), then with two more girls, Wesla Rae (1961), and Melanie Sue (1963).
Their lives eventually led them back to settle in Fort Collins where she was a homemaker and mother, waitress, school bus driver and medical transcriptionist at CSU's College of Veterinary Sciences. Upon retirement, Raymond and Evelyn moved to Fleming, Colorado, to be back in the wide-open spaces she loved so much. Their travels included trips to the beaches in Oregon with their grandchildren and a cross-country trip to Prince Edward Island to visit lighthouses along the way. Evelyn enjoyed her life in Fleming reading, leading Bible studies, sharing the Gospel, playing cards with friends, and chocolate. She shared her compassion and her love of Jesus with anyone in need.
Evelyn was blessed throughout her life with six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as numerous friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, "adopted" daughters and one very special long-time companion, Mr. Wayne Wertz. Evelyn and Wayne shared a special relationship for 10 years until his passing in 2015.
Evelyn leaves behind one brother, Claude McEwen, Jr. and his family, her youngest daughter, Sue Boyle and husband Michael, and four precious grandchildren from daughter Michel, namely, Casey Don Zeigler and wife Kara (Bently), Wesley Ray Doney and wife Kate (Saurillo), Cari Jo Harris (Zeigler) and husband, Tim, and Clayton Dean Doney.
