Evelyn Reese

Evelyn Nicholson Reese, 98, passed at home on December 6, 2025, in Horse Shoe surrounded by family. She was born on April 26, 1927, to Walter and Annie Nicholson in Transylvania County and graduated from Brevard High School. She began working at Ecusta paper mill during World War II, where she rose in rank as one of the first female supervisors during an era of few opportunities for women and retired at the age of 62.

Evelyn lived in Hendersonville with her husband, Vernon H. Reese, from 1947, where she loved to constantly work in her yard, even in her 90's. She knew her neighbors and always enjoyed interacting with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. Reese, and sisters Helen Orr and Loretta Bell. She is survived by her daughters: Linda (Brian) Riley and Faye Taira; grandchildren: Amy Taira and Ian (Nicole) Riley (Amber Holritz); and sister, Wanda Gilliam.

Private graveside services will be held at Shepherd Memorial Park.
