Evelyn Smith, 89, of Waynesville, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025. She was the daughter of the late George and Talitha Parton Messer. She is also preceded in death by her husband Norman Smith; two brothers, Charlie and Julius Messer, Sr. and four sisters, Beulah Messer, Dovie Finney, Deliah Hollingsworth, and Georgie Phillips.
Evelyn’s life was working and people. She never knew a stranger, loved all and was loved by all. Her specialty was making Honey Bun Cakes for everyone she knew. But most importantly she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She blessed many churches with a special song “The Next Step” singing the group Heartfelt.
She is survived by her sister Polly Ward. A special nephew who was like a son and her caretakers, Julius Messer, Jr (Tracy), along with a special great niece Aurora Pless.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Millard Grant and Reverend Kenny Banks officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Moody Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Burton, Levi and Luck Smith, Dale McMahan, Jace Smith, Roster Russell. Honorary Pallbearers are Tae and Tymber Russell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Maggie Valley Nursing Home & Rehab Staff for the care given to their loved one.
