January 30, 1926 – February 4, 2025
Evelyn Angeline Werstein, age 99 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 4 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in Monroe.
Born January 30, 1926, in Monroe. She was the oldest of six children of the late Silas and Alma (Palmer) Russeau. Evelyn attended Monroe Schools.
Evelyn married Joseph J. Werstein on August 4, 1945, at St. Michael Catholic Church of Monroe. Together they raised three children. Evelyn led a Christian life and was a past member of Bread of Life Church in Tecumseh.
In her younger years, she liked to go ice skating on the river as well as go dancing. As she got older, she enjoyed going for car rides to her childhood home and local parks. In her free time, she liked to go on lunch dates and stroll down the river walk.
Surviving is her son: Mark Werstein; grandson: Rick Straub; and brothers: Edward and Elmer Russeau.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by son: Joseph Werstein Jr; daughter: Evelyn Werstein; granddaughter: Shelia Straub; and siblings: Earl Russeau, Ethel Fountain, and Edith Engel.
Friends and family are invited to a committal service at St. Joseph Cemetery of Monroe on Monday, February 10, 2025, starting at 10 am. Officiating is Rev. Larry Detruf. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com
