Everett E. "Gene" Hunter went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2025, at the age of 90. The oldest of ten children, he was born on May 25, 1935, to Everett and Marceline Bostic Hunter.

Gene spent most of his life in Fayette County. His childhood was spent on a farm north of Glenwood with his parents and grandparents. Years later, his parents farmed south of Bentonville where they raised several acres of tomatoes for various canning factories. In 1950 the family moved to Connersville. Gene went to school during the day and worked nights at Porcelain Steel. He also worked for Rex, the lower Philco Freezer Plant and Roots Blower. He retired after over 35 years from D & M/WCI and then went to work for Johnson Carpet Cleaning for 8 years.

On April 27, 1957, Gene married the love of his life, Shirley Simpson, at the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. They shared 62 years together prior to her death on July 1, 2019. They were long time members of Calvary Baptist Church. He and Shirley enjoyed their many trips to Branson, Missouri. Gene had a passion for old tractors and old cars, of which he owned several at one time.

Gene's love and memories will be cherished by his daughter, Jeanna (Mike) Mitchell; sons, Marty (Kim) Hunter and Tom (Sue) McHugh; a brother, Dale (Debbie) Hunter; grandchildren, Chad (fiancé, RaChelle) Mitchell, Brandy (Shawn) Washler and Libby (fiancé, Steve) McHugh: and great grandchildren, Parker Mitchell, Savannah Mitchell, Carson Washler, Dakota Ball, Andrew Alvarado and Cole Alvarado.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vickie Jean; brothers, Mike Hunter and Jack Hunter; sisters, Donna Carlton, June Bowling, Carolyn Bowling, Bonita Steele and two infant sisters; brothers-in-law, Tilford Bowling, Granville Bowling, Jack Steele and Dallas Carlton.

Funeral services for Gene will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 309 W 24th Street, Connersville on Monday November 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Family and friends may gather from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service at the church. Gene will be laid to rest next to Shirley at Dale Cemetery.
