Everett Wilson Obituary
Everett Ray Wilson, 94, of Owensville, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He was born to the late Hobart and Clara (Richardson) Wilson on his mother's birthday, February 1, 1930, in Johnson, Indiana. He is preceded by his sisters, Rosalie Lucille Davis and Imogene Higginbotham, and brothers, Roy Lee Wilson (nephew, Jerry Wilson) and Alan Wayne Wilson. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Dean Higginbotham, Robin Brent Davis, Larry Wilson, Kristina Moore, Jim Higginbotham, Lou Ann Wilson, Jennifer Doyle, Penny Wilson, Chris Al Wilson, and special close friends, Bart and Sherri Clevenger.
Everett attended Trinidad State College in Trinidad, Colorado from 1948 to 1950 and played basketball for them. In 1951, he served in the US Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he finished his undergraduate studies at Evansville University and went on to receive a master's degree from Indiana State University.
Everett taught and coached basketball and baseball at Patoka High School from 1959 to 1964, then moved on to Princeton High School where he coached basketball from 1964 to 1967. He completed his career at Mt. Carmel High School where he coached men's and women's basketball from 1967 to his retirement in 1992. In 2019, he was inducted into the Greater Evansville Baseball Hall of Fame for his coaching. Aside from his coaching, he taught history, social studies, economics, physical education and driver's education.
Everett had a special love for dogs. Throughout his lifetime he owned, raised, cared for, bred, trained, and rescued at least 20 dogs. Some of those dogs just followed him home while he would be out enjoying one of his rides on his beloved motorcycle.
A celebration of Everett's life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wabash County Shelter Buddies in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
