It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fa'ataui Onosa'i Mageo on August 19, 2025. Born in the picturesque Pago Pago, Eastern District, American Samoa, on June 21, 1961, Fa'ataui was an adventurous individual known for his free spirit and zest for life.
Fa'ataui had a keen knack for building things. His dexterity and creativity was admired in his craftsmanship. He was a man of many talents, but his most profound was his skill as a Boat Captain. With the ocean as his companion, he steered his way through life with spontaneity.
Fa'ataui is survived by his children, Onosa'i Mageo and Toluselau Mandy Sanitoa, and his siblings sister Malo Elisara, sister Fiapa'i Moananu, sister Lusia Sauni, sister Simeamativa Onosa'i, sister Iutita O. Galea'i, and brother Ve'evalu Onosa'i Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Onosa'i Ve'evalu Mageo (1986) and Fa'atalaleu Mageo (1993), and his siblings brother Fale Ve'evalu (2001), sister Helena Panama (2003), and sister Siautapini Snow (2023). His life will be honored on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:30am at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel, followed by a Committal Service with Military Honors at 1:00pm at Tahoma National Cemetery. The journey of Fa'ataui's life ebbed and flowed like the ocean waters he sailed throughout the Pacific. As we turn the final page of his chapter on earth, we remember him with a scripture, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine." Isaiah 43:1
We invite you to join us in celebrating Fa'ataui's life by sharing your memories and photos on his memorial page.
