Farley George "Jim" Newland, Jr. was born on June 10, 1946, in Somerville, New Jersey, to Farley Sr. and Bertha Newland. A lifelong resident of Bridgewater, Jim spent the past 13 years enjoying winters in Port Orange, Florida. He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School West, Class of 1964, and a devoted member and Elder of Finderne Reformed Church in Bridgewater.
Jim was a man of many talents and endless curiosity. He loved to tinker, repair, and take on do-it-yourself projects-there was rarely a moment when his hands or mind were idle. Friends and family often said, "Jim could fix almost anything!" He and Gail shared a love of travel, whether by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or simply long walks together, exploring the beauty of everyday life.
Following in his father's footsteps, Jim found joy in building and racing stock cars and A-Econo dragsters-he truly had a "need for speed." His passion for automobiles led him to co-own and operate Farley's Amoco and Automotive Station in Bridgewater from the 1960s to the 1980s. After, he became a proprietor of Anchor Reef Marina and Boat Sales in Toms River, New Jersey. It was there that he and Gail were married in a poolside ceremony in 1982. Following this, he continued his passion for cars by specializing in restoring and maintaining classic and antique automobiles.
Jim also loved creating intricate model train layouts in his basement, delighting children who visited during the Christmas season. Among his greatest joys was the special bond he shared with his grandson Donovan, who will always treasure their time together playing with trains. Jim's life was one of hard work, kindness, and devotion to his family. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his passion for building and creating, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of over 43 years, Gail Irene (Anema) Newland; also leaving behind sister, Darleen Collins; sister through adoption, Karen Herring; daughter, Sunday Keeling, and her husband John; two stepchildren, Scott Anema and Sandee Smith, and her husband Don; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Donovan Smith, and Maxwell and Adeline Ingraham.
A family hosted memorial service will be held in conjunction with Sunday worship on December 14, 2025, 10:00 A.M. at Finderne Reformed Church, 581 Bridgewater Avenue, Bridgewater, New Jersey 08807. A family hosted Celebration of Life and 80th Birthday gathering is planned for June 2026, with details to be shared at a later date on Gail's Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor Jim's memory in a special way-by helping to complete his final project: the bathroom in the Florida home that he and Gail shared. Jim was well-known for saying, "I have projects to do!" Though his health prevented him from finishing this one, completing it now will bring his hard work full circle and fulfill his wish.
