Faye Penton Chandler, age 77, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on December 3,
2021, with her family by her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, affectionately called "Ma" by her grandbabies, and a Christian. She loved the Lord
and her family with her entire heart.
She was born on May 4, 1944, to Jesse and Grace Penton in Pensacola, Florida. After
graduating from Escambia High School in 1962, she married Charles Mitchell Chandler. After
living in Germany, where Mitchell was stationed during his service in the Army, for over a year,
Faye resided in Pensacola.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jesse "Jack" Franklin Penton, Jr.; mother, Grace
Davis Penton Bratcher; and sister, Joan Lucille McLeod (Bill). She is survived by her loving
husband of 59 years, Charles Mitchell Chandler; son, Chuck Chandler (Lisa); daughter, Allison
Simila (Ed); grandchildren, Tess Simila Bogue (Patrick), Kaitlyn Simila, and Brooke Simila; one
great grandchild, Theodore Chandler Bogue; and many nieces and nephews.
Faye worked for the Escambia County School District for 25 years. She was a teacher's
aide at Montclair Elementary, librarian assistant and teacher's aid at Oakcrest Elementary, and,
for the majority of her career, a school secretary at Pleasant Grove Elementary.
Faye enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, spending time with family, puzzles, playing
Scrabble, traveling, and crossword puzzles. The joy of her life was her three granddaughters.
She and Mitchell loved to travel to visit Allison and Ed because that was where the grandbabies
were! They have traveled all the way to Maine, Texas, Chicago, and Virginia to visit and be a
huge part of the girls' lives. Faye and Mitchell also loved to travel to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee,
and enjoyed many trips up to the Smoky Mountains.
Faye was a fabulous cook, and enjoyed making many meals for her family, friends and
relatives. She always welcomed the opportunity to feed a whole crowd! Her signature dish was
her delicious lasagna, and signature dessert was her famous Red Velvet Cake. Faye and
Mitchell worked together to create her very own cookbook, and if you have one of these prized
cookbooks, you are lucky! Faye loved her family so much and was happiest when we were all
together.
The service will be held at Faith Chapel South, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola,
Florida, on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 11:00 am. Family will be welcomed from 9:30-10:00
