Faye Toombs 98, of North Little Rock began a new life in Heaven, Saturday, April 16, 2022. She was born to James and Eltie Ferguson in Wheatley, Arkansas, February 20, 1924.
After graduation from Monticello High School, she attended Arkansas College at Batesville (Lyon College) and then began her dental career lasting 25years.
Faye leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 74 years William C. Toombs, Sr., daughter Dr. Nancy J. Toombs, both of North Little Rock, son William Clay Toombs, Jr. (Cindy) of Carrollton, Texas. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, but closest to her heart was niece Cathy Lee (Kelino), whom she loved as a second daughter and Stephen Foster (Cheri), whom she loved as a second son. Cathy's children Mallory Lee and Evan Lee (Erica) were adored and considered grandchildren. Evan's little girl Emma Grace was the new twinkle in her eye. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
Faye was an expert gardener and member of the Arkansas Orchid Society. She grew six different species of orchids and 25 varieties of daffodils, jonquils and Narcissus as well as five varieties of ferns. She had her own greenhouse and grew dogwood trees from seed. She loved her daylilies and had more than 40 varieties.
She always looked forward to her Friday lunch bunch at Amboy United Methodist Church and was known for her famous pies and deviled eggs. She so loved all the luncheon members and especially enjoyed taking her twin sister Nora with her to enjoy the good food and fellowship.
She had a vacation group that she and her husband Dub loved to plan trips and outings. Rose and Joe Wright and Lee and Lillian Lankford made many tips together to various parts of the U.S. exploring the national parks and more. They were lifelong friends and many memories were made during their adventures.
Faye loved to fish and never missed an opportunity for a good fishing trip as long as she had someone along to bait her hook.
She loved to decorate and long before there was a Martha Stewart, there was a Faye Toombs. Known for making her own Christmas ornaments, decorating her home for the holidays with handmade items. Her talents seemed endless as she could China paint, make ceramics, hang wallpaper, landscape, build flower beds and was an expert on the business end of a shovel. She was an expert cook and excelled when it came to baking pies. She was a grand hostess and loved to cook and entertain with her family and friends.
She was known for her frequent trips to the casino and some of her trips were legendary when it came to winning.
Foremost, she loved her family and was the happiest when they all gathered together, told stories, enjoyed good food and laughed. She loved to laugh and always said it was truly the best medicine.
She will be missed by so many, but left us with five lifetimes of precious memories.
Funeral services will be a private gathering with Reverend Miles Cook officiating. Interment will follow at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Amboy United Methodist Church.
