Fern Alma Roberson

An angel on this earth, Fern Alma (Newton) Roberson, 100, New Albany, IN passed away at her home in the early hours of Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. She was born on December 29th, 1924 in Eckerty, Indiana to the late Howard Newton and Francis "Fannie" Ann (Wybert) Newton. Fern worked as a cafeteria aide at a school for some years while she also was a loving homemaker and matriarch to many who knew and loved her. At one time she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she attended the First Church of God for many years.
In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by; husband, Alfred B. Roberson; brothers, Thaddies Newton, Gerald Newton, and Clifford Newton; sisters, Nora Rupp and Verlea Roberts; sons, Tony Roberson and Dean Roberson, and a daughter in law, Linda.
Left to cherish her memory; daughter, Brenda Smith-Bell (Jim); and many loving extended family members and friends.

Just a country girl,
A little meek, a little wild
A week spent in the city,
a perfect time for this child.
Those summers spent at my Great Aunt's house,
Were favorite moments for me,
I was rarely told no,
And spoiled as I could be.
It wasn't because she catered to me,
Or brought me gifts galore,
What she added to my life,
Was worth so much more.
We would watch my favorite movies,
Play go fish at the table,
Take Stormy, later
Ginger for long walks,
Whenever we were able.
Milkshakes in the blender,
Hot chocolate at night,
Sewing on buttons and making pillows,
Learning how to do it right.
I'd talk about whatever I was thinking,
She would gladly sit and listen,
Giving a kid the greatest gift,
Pure love and attention.
She'd say "Study hard and work hard, you can be what you want to be"
And though I didn't become much, she never acted disappointed in me.
Today heaven received, A very special treasure,
A heart so full of kindness and love,
More than any tool could measure.
