I am so sorry to learn of Fern's death. I first knew her and Dr. Shellhase while I was a student at U of AL School of Social Work and later worked with her at Partlow State School and Hospital. She was a bright, enthusiastic, and caring person. She will be fondly remembered by many.

You do not know me, but my maiden name was Yentes. I contacted Fern back in the 80's as she had done extensive research on the Yentes family. She wrote me the nicest letter, and sent some documents to get me started. I regret not keeping the correspondence going, I would have loved to have learned more about the family history and to have met her. I saw her obit in the Lincoln paper this morning and recalled her gracious attention to my inquiry. I'm not sure what the connection to the Yentes family was-am thinking that she might have been a cousin to my dad, Cletus Yentes. He passed away in 2005. My husband and I send our sympathy to you-it is always hard to lose a parent, no matter how old they are.
Is there any chance I could contact her sister here in Lincoln? I have done a little research with Ancestry.com and would be interested in visiting with her.
Sincerely,
Lynn and Becky Young
