Grand Isle--- Fernand Gendreau, 79, passed away unexpectedly May 23, 2025, at a Caribou hospital. He was born November 14, 1945, in Madawaska, a son of the late Wilfrid and Lucille (Plourde) Gendreau, and was raised by his mother and late stepfather, Ernest Gendreau.
Fern last worked for Fraser Paper and Albert Farms for many years as a mechanic and truck driver. Even after his retirement, he rarely slowed down and busied himself with many projects around his property. Fern was an avid supporter of Mizpah, Grand Isle, and spent countless hours volunteering. He was also a long-time member and active volunteer of the Grand Isle ATV Club and Madawaska Snowmobile Club.
He is survived by two children, Brenda Griffin and her husband Michael of New Hampshire, and Brian Gendreau and his fiancée Ida Lavoie of Madawaska; his special friend and companion, Jane Cyr of Madawaska; three siblings, Linda Cyr of Madawaska, John Gendreau and his wife Fran of St. David, and Allen Gendreau and his wife Debbie of Auburn; five grandchildren, Alexandria, Austin, Liam, Emma and Abby; one great grandson, Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and stepfather, Fern was predeceased by a son, Dale in 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, June 2, 2025 at St. David Church, St. David. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Monday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fern's name may be made to: Mizpah, PO Box 216, Grand Isle, ME 04746. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska.
