Finnegan Shaffer

In the quiet embrace of anticipation, Finnegan "Finn" Hartley Shaffer made his gentle mark on the world, enfolded in the love and dreams of his family. Though his time with us ended at twenty-four weeks gestation, his presence was profoundly felt by those who eagerly awaited his arrival.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Finn was a simple soul with a taste of comfort. While nestled in his mother Elizabeth's belly, he showed a delightful penchant for comfort food. Mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli seasoned lightly with salt and pepper, and warm, buttery biscuits were the flavors that resonated with him. His little heart danced with joy at mom eating a slice of banana bread; this became a favored treat over Elizabeth's usual chocolate cravings.
To his father, Seth, Finn was affectionately dubbed an old soul. He seemed to thrive in the serene moments of familial harmony, calming when Elizabeth and Seth sang lullabies. Dad serenaded "Too La Roo", while mom sang bright and hopeful childhood songs like "May There Always Be Sunshine."
Ultrasound technicians frequently noted how snugly he hugged Elizabeth's spine, a tender embrace that symbolized their deep bond. These elusive images revealed his spirited nature through little kicks and a memorable somersault that left even the technician laughing, predicting he would be quite the character.
Finn had a special connection with his father, as he seemed to become more active in Elizabeth's belly around 9:00pm, aligning with Seth's return from work.
Although Finnegan's journey was limited to womb-side embrace, the impact of his sweet spirit and the joy he brought during his brief expectancy remains enduring. He leaves his parents: Seth and Elizabeth (Beaudrie) Shaffer; maternal grandparents: Anne (Ron) Lott and Gary (Karen) Beaudrie; paternal grandparents: David (Keatha) Shaffer; three aunts: Mary (Patrick) Petit; Treuly (Simon) Tomell, and Myah Shaffer; an uncle: Jeremiah Shaffer, five cousins: Mariah Petit, Alex Petit, Korin Petit, Drennon Tomell, and Atlas Griggs.
On Thursday; November 13, 2025, friends may gather from 9:30am until 10:30am, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe: 2442 North Monroe Street, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 11:30am. A procession to St. Charles Cemetery will immediately follow for burial.
